In the past 3 months I have noticed big clumps of loose hair from my head and I don;t know why? I am a vegetarian and thought it could be a lack of iron, but I've tried taking iron tablets and still no change. Any advice?Hair loss - 23yr old female?
It could be a variety of things. Do you have any other symptoms like dry skin, depression, intolerance to cold, or weight gain? I suffer from hypothyroidism, and one of the first things I noticed was I seemed to lose more hair than usual. When your thyroid is under active, your body seems to ';slow down,'; resulting in weight gain, lack of retaining moisture (dry skin, hair falling out), and being more sensitive to temperature changes.
It could be stress. Have you been under more stress than usual? Have you been wearing your hair up more than usual? Have you ever asked your mom if she ever had problems with hair loss (perhaps it's genetics).
If it continues, I'd definitely see a doctor to have some blood work checked. Hypothyroidism is a completely livable disorder, but it requires daily medication. You may also want to have your vitamin and nutrient levels checked to see if they're all normal as well, as any sort of vitamin deficiency could be contributing to the problem as well.Hair loss - 23yr old female?
I think it's also lack of protein, your hair is made of protein, you may want to see your Dr. if it continues to happen, but try taking some protein suppliments and some iron suppliments, this may be the cause of the hair loss.
My Juanita has had the same problem with her hair afallin out, usually a hanging up on the head board of the bed. Maybe you ought try a scootin down a bit in the bed, so as to quit a banging your head.......Good Luck!
Iron tablets are too weak to stop hair loss (which is caused by a hormone called DHT). You should use a more powerful and fast acting formula. Provillus works for this I'll guarantee you.

This kind of stuff can happen to people every once in a while. Taylor Hicks started getting grey hair at age 15!! just be patient and it will most likely grow back (that is not a garuntee!).
I agree that it is probably a lack of protein.
Or it could be stress related, either emotional or physical- my mom always loses alot of hair after she's had some sort of surgery.
If it is some sort of pattern ( circles/patches-such as alopecia ) go to a dermatologist- it can probably be treated or alleviated and the hair regrown, and regrown quicker through treatments such as cortizone injections.
I would go to the doctor. An iron deficiency is a possibility, but there are also a number of other things that can cause this (i.e. thyroid problems and some autoimmune disorders). Also, a doctor can help you make sure you're eating in a healthy way and you'll still be able to be a vegetarian. Good luck!
hair loss can be caused by stress think
have you been tired recently?
have you been arguing with relatives?
23, maby out all night partying, tiredness?

get it checked out by a doctor...my family has a history of thyroid problems and it causes the hair to thin and fall out. all of my aunts have very thin hair and it looks like they are balding. A simple blood test could help or just ask your doctor if it is normal.
