Any suggestions about hair loss; I'm 62 and female?

An underactive thyroid often causes loss of bodily hair, including on the head. Far more women than men get this and there are masses of people going around with this undiagnosed condition - at a mild level which, nevertheless, causes misery. Diagnostic chemical testing ranges are far too wide to pinpoint these many people who get the Thyroid Function Test only to be told by their Doctor that there's no problem there.

Do a quick visual check on your bodily hair, starting with the eyebrows. Has the outer third of the brows disappeared? Do you rarely have to shave under your arms / on your legs? Are you overweight and constantly feeling tired? Are you often depressed? If so, why not look further into thyroid replacement treatment? I've had the condition for decades but now I'm on a therapeutic dose of Thyroxine my hair is much better, morning tiredness has virtually gone and my weight is fine. Hope that helps!Any suggestions about hair loss; I'm 62 and female?
Some hair loss can be genetic and really can't be helped. It's important though to have the GP check your thyroid levels as your hairloss may be a sign of a problem that can be and needs to be corrected.

If you don't have a thyroid problem a good hairdresser can help you make the most of your hair, failing that there are some very good wigs available if you feel you need to cover up your hair loss.Any suggestions about hair loss; I'm 62 and female?

hair loss is natural and unless you have allipesha i don't think theres anything else you can do
As we age, we start losing hair. But sometimes it can be a disease. Don't let the word ';disease'; scare you. There are many simple things that it can be. Go to your doctor and ask for a blood test. Today's blood tests can tell a doctor what is wrong with our bodies.

Also ask for a thyroid test.

Let your doctor know about the hair loss.
Hair loss is caused by many reasons such as malnutrition, illness, tension and other health problems. It is normal to shed some hair each day as part of a cycle of growing new hairs and loosing some. Badly damaged hair breaks at the scalp. Check out http://usefulinfo-hairloss.blogspot.com/ for more info.
