Over the past year:
My periods have become very irregular and strange. Occuring every 25-35 days, and lasting 1-9 days of bleeding which is typically for a few hours per day alternate days. The first day is always painful. They used to be very regular and more constant.
My hair is thinning from the top of my head and getting very limp, and I'm getting more, thicker, darker facial hair on/under my jaw line, chin and ';side burns';.
I'm experiencing increasing amounts of what I believe is cystic acne on my jaw/lower cheeks. I had light acne at 14. Changing skin care and make up makes very little difference, and they leave dark purple scars.
In the last few months I've been getting dry red skin on my wrist and elbow, and I am always cold(especially my hands and feet), sometimes I'll feel very cold but my skin will be hot to touch.
I'm a 19 year old female, BMI 21, drink little alcohol, eat very healthily, could exercise more. I'm rarely stressed, though did move away for Uni 3 months ago.
I saw my GP who suggested possible thyroid issues and had blood tests, but said it could ';just be your life';. My blood count, bone profile and thyroid are all normal and now I'm concerned. What else can this be? I'm miserable and reclusive, I don't want this to just be my life.
I suggested that my hormones aren't right but she didn't seem tot hink anything of it.
Should I try to see another GP?
The hair issues are particularly upsetting, even if there's nothing wrong with me could anything be done? Birth control pill help?Irregular periods, hair loss, facial hair etc in a ';healthy'; 19 year old female?
Please see a gynecologist, this sounds like it may related to PCOS. Do not just take what your gp says as gospel, many times they overlook symptoms that a more qualified doctor can catch. I know I would also be upset if a doctor told me that this could 'just be your life' that is NOT a acceptable answer hon and you deserve better than that. A good gyno will test your hormone levels and check you throughly. Just get an appointment to get this sorted out...you deserve to be happy and healthy. Good luck!Irregular periods, hair loss, facial hair etc in a ';healthy'; 19 year old female?
It sounds like it could possibly PCOS. It has a lot of those types of symptoms. My best friend was having them, and they confirmed it last year.
to be honest this doesn't exactly sound normal, and you shouldn't have to put up with it and accept that it's your life.
are you on the pill or taking any other medication? i can't really think of anything that would have this sort of effect, if you're taking anything then read or look up the contraindications of it and you might see some of your symptoms listed. i would stop taking it straight away if that's the case.
other than that i would go see your doctor, a different one this time because it's not acceptable for a doctor to tell you that. go see a female if you think they'll be more understanding or helpful.
it could be a hormonal problem, or something similar. hair loss and hair growth are usually caused by some kind of hormonal imbalance. you say your periods are effected so it could also be something to do with your ovaries.
from personal experience, go and do something about it now or before any symptoms start to get worse. if you're unhappy then it's time to sort it out cos i doubt this will go away on it's own.
i just found this:

don't worry about it yet, just go and see a doctor. good luck
