Hey all,
First off I am a 17 year old female, I'm not sure if that helps the answer or not. Anyways a while back I had to go get numerous blood tests for hypothyroidism, all those tests later turned out I did not have it. Now I'm just fed up with my freaking hair. I know it is normal to shed but I am going to go crazy. I cannot take a shower without strands of hair coming out and then when I go to brush, more comes out. Even if I just group my hair and run my fingers through it more hair comes out. My towel needs to be washed all the time because hair is all over it and I just want to stop having people tell me ';you have hair on your shirt';.
Ok enough with the fluff. Someone told me that if my hair is falling out a lot over a period of time I should get my thyroid checked out. Why? What does hair have to do with the thyroid? Does my concern with thyroid in the past increase something now? Should I get it checked out?
Thank you for answering! (and reading the long question lol)Hair Loss And Thyroid?
Thyroid imbalance is just one of many possible causes of hair loss. Teenage hair loss is becoming more and more common. Some of the more common causes include medication, recent vaccination, trauma, infection, major life change, birth control, extreme diet/weight loss, nutritional deficiency etc. Any change, disturbance or imbalance can disrupt the hair growth cycle causing more hairs than usual to retreat to the telogen (resting) stage where they will then be shed 1-3 months later. It may be helpful to think back to the months prior to hair loss for clues. Essential oil scalp massage is very helpful. The links below have information on the types and causes of teenage hair loss.Hair Loss And Thyroid?
I've had hyperthyroidism since 11 and my hair just recently started thinning now at 26. I never had a problem until now but I know hairloss can be caused by stress and can be hereditary too. You're very young though that shouldn't be happening yet. If you're really worried see the dermatologist.
If you have a thyroid disorder your hair usually starts to fall out. Your hair will also become coarse if it's hypo and thin if it's hyper.
how much strands of your hair falls out per day? if ~150 then it is normal!
Here a few simple home remedies which can be tried at home to control hair fall.
1.Rinse your hair with a mix of apple cider vinegar and sage tea this helps hair grow..
2. A medicine rich in sulfur is also recommended as sulfur plays an important part in the structure of the hair.
3. Massage with olive oil before going to bed at night and next morning, wash off the hair gently..
4. To treat hair loss apply a little lemon juice with some black tea.Massage well and shampoo.
5. Beat two eggs, and add two tablespoons of water to it. Rinse hair and pour the egg mixture over the hair.Massage the scalp well and leave for 10 minutes. Then wash it.
